My guests were Patricia White general manager of Palizo, and executive chef Alvero, He was delightful and had some great ideas to share. And Trish is always a treat. We had lunch from Bird and it was fabulous. Patrick White owns Palizo and Bir and Kaos and Uno Mas Too.
The question of the day: how many lbs. of pasta dough do they make in a week-to make all their pastas—60 lbs.-that is a lot of dough.

Where Gabby’s Been This Week…

Bittersweet continues to amaze with fabulous food and wine-and service. every dish is beautiful to see, better to eat and enjoy every taste. Bittersweet remains tops in Denver dining.
Bittersweet continues to wow the crowd after 5 years. It is charming in design and the staff Is fabulous. The food from Olav Peterson-owner and chef is creative, gorgeous to see, and better to eat. Each dish is so delicious with perfect spices. Appetizers could make a meal with several pasta, house made of course, and then risotto. The gnocchi come with pork belly and roasted pepper emulsion. The asparagus salad is worth the trip with charred asparagus, basil Meyer lemon dressing and a 6-minute egg so soft to ooze over the wonderful asparagus. Entrees bring hanger steak, Cornish game hen, scallops, and short rib. The barramundi arrives with a pasilla and shrimp fritter, green grapes, shishito peppers crème fraiche and coriander aioli. It is heavenly as is the huge lamb shank with cauliflower, brussels sprouts, serrano emulsion, garlic chips and ark chocolate demi. The result brings a lamb shank to new heights. Decadent desserts, house made bread, and great wines add to the fun. Bittersweet is definitely tops in Denver.

A wonderful dinner at Shells and Sauce-the snow came down and we were warm and happy-a perfect night for warm bread, chop salad, delicious mussels and great chicken parm!! wine and super service too.
Shells and Sauce continues to be a true hot spot for the hood and people come from near and far. The snow was coming down but great inside. Service is so good and wines are great. One room and so much fun. The list of appetizers and salads gives so many choices. This time perfect mussels and chop salad-gave up the burrata salad and another favorite but this was great. The mussels were so good and perfectly dine and of course chicken parm here is a wonderful choice anytime. It was such a treat.
EL FIVE-GABBY DINNER
The Gabby Dinner at El Five was heavenly. The crowd was thrilled with every bite in this very special restaurant. Great wines—and service-and then we started with cauliflower Yukta, and then each person got a mezze platter of peanut humus charred carrot hummus, crudité, and house made pita. Then came the anger steak, to die for, with brussels sprouts garlic aioli, and moho picon. Dessert of baklava that is the best with to die for again orange flower-currant ice cream ended the feast. What a divine treat.
El Five brings to Denver the most special restaurant. The ambience and design is the most stunning in town-so spectacular and add Mediterranean fare with small plates and several paellas, every dish great to see, better to eat. From cauliflower lamb ribs, carrots, matzo dumplings, and cheese croquettes to lamb sausage, hummus, and babaganush to entrees of paella-sausage, seafood, vegetarian, rabbit sausage, you will be thrilled. Decadent desserts, great wine and cocktails, super service all add up to tops in town.
Finally-Shake Shack opens in Denver-in RiNo 29th and Larimer-great looking and the burger all that they say-so good with perfect bun-great toppings-the green chile just for Denver a must, shakes, fries, chicken too, and vanilla custard dessert-oh my–welcome to Denver-we love you.
Shake shack lives up to the hype!! The space is fabulous-high ceilings, great wood, all open with huge windows-the line goes quickly-there are a lot of people—all friendly and waiting for the burger fix we have been waiting for. Staff is great-place your order, grab a seat-there are many tables, high tops and seating—a pager will alert you when your order is ready/ there’s even beer and wine-then divine lemonade, coffee and tea too-now let’s get to the food. Burgers-shackburger-love it -cheeseburger with stuff and shack sauce, smoke stack-cheeseburger with bacon, chopped cherry pepper and shack sauce-shroom bug, A veggie choice with mushrooms and cheese, and more. There is a chicken, crispy with lettuce, pickles, buttermilk herb mayo or a griddled chick’n club. The green chile cheddar shack is Denver only!!! Love it with shredded white cheddar, marinated green chilies and scallions. Crinkly fries are a hit too. Then concretes!! That is a dessert that takes a glazed filled donut with their vanilla custard-don’t look at the calories. And in case that is not enough you might want a hand spun shake too!!! Whatever it is, it’s a scene, a treat, and the place to be!

Citizen Rail is the new steakhouse at the Kimpton Hotel Born-the ambience and service as tops and adds to the excellent food. Specially loved the mussels and octopus!
Citizen Rail is the steakhouse and more in the Kimpton Hotel, Born in the exciting Union Station area. As you enter one room is a bar/lounge, a happening place where the large bar and surrounding tables are filled with people who gather for happy hour, a drink, or even to enjoy a meal from the regular menu. The dining area is warm with a huge open kitchen, a chefs’ bar to watch the chefs and comfortable seating. Lots of wood, big windows and a terrific staff set the scene. Start with grilled oysters, a potato cake, sweetbreads, a sourdough garlic know covered with creamy burrata, and lamb tartar. The mesquite fired mussels with grilled bread are plump and so pleasing to the taste. Enjoy charcuterie or one of the lovely salads as well. Steaks star and are prepared on a special grill after removed from the dry aging room on display. Mains arrive with complete dinners starting with a huge bone in smoked short rib, chicken, blackened monkfish, a vegetarian plate and one amazing whole octopus swimming in a spicy tomato relish. The burger is so popular with bacon, cheddar, and more on brioche. Decadent desserts end the meal. There’s an interesting cocktail and wine list to complement the food. Service is outstanding from the host to managers and waitstaff. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Citizen Rail is an excellent choice for dining in the area.

Avelina as always delivers the best experience. Great food, wine and service. Some from the bar menu and some not but both terrific. May go back tomorrow!!
Avelina is a real highlight in downtown Denver. The place is beautiful with a fabulous bar that spans the front of the restaurant and opens with windows to the patio wen weather permits. Along the back of this area there is comfortable seating with tables. Dine here or gather for a drink or take a seat in the beautiful dining room with an open kitchen in the rear. The new bar menu is a treat with hanger steak, a fabulous burger, greens with salmon with a bit of spice in the dressing, terrific falafel, and red pepper hummus and lamb meatballs. The regular menu is available here as well as in the dining room. Some favorites: mussels, the squash salad, carrot salad, awesome soup, octopus, tuna tartar, and amazing cauliflower or bahn mai flatbread. Entrees of fish, lasagna, pork, lamb, steak, short rib and pasta make decisions difficult. Save room for decadent desserts. Great cocktails and wine and the best service in town make this more special. Avelina is a great choice for Denver dining.
Avelina boys the mark again. New folks were thrilled. Me too. Divine mussels, squash salad, tuna tartar and burgers. And then chocolate for dessert and wine. It was a great night.
