Great new dinner to start the new year. Avelina is fabulous and they are going to wow us with a four course dinner complete with wine. The price is $50 inclusive of tax, tip and wine-seating is limited in a private room so reserve early.

Amuse-

Lobster agnolotti, butternut squash puree, lardon

First choice of

Grilled Squash Salad, rosemary maple vin., blue cheese, candied walnuts, quinoa, dried cranberries.

Roasted heirloom carrot salad, Dill crema, pine nuts, rebel farm arugula, crispy artichokes, cum vin.

Second course

Lamb meatballs, squash marinara, herb ricotta, basil pesto

Spanish octopus, romesco, snaps peas, confit potatoes, charred lemon aioli.

Third Course

Chicken Roulade, boudin sausage, creamy grits, patty pans and mustard demi

A PERFECT BIRTHDAY PARTY!!! I CAN TELL YOU THAT IF YOU ARE PLANNING AN EVENT, THIS PLACE PLEASES TO PERFECTION!!

We had the perfect surprise party for Steve’s big birthday-and we did surprise him Thanks to Eric Jennings (party planner) at El Five and assistance from Ky Belk-(mixologist) we wowed the guests.

First came Mezze Platters-spreads of Turkish eggplant, peanut hummus with charred carrot hummus, htipiti, artichokes, house made pita, and carrots, cucumbers and more. This is worth the visit but so is everything else.

We all had cauliflower yufka-chickepeas, pine nuts, tahini, avocado fattoush, and cumin rouille to accent the empanada-like filled pastries with pureed cauliflower.

Matzo Ball soup dumplings come with mixepoix, chicken bouillon, schmaltz, lemon, olive oil, and dill. Eat these in one bite and have the flavors combine and melt in your mouth.

Moroccan lam sausage is done with the sliced rounds of sausage atop hummus, feta cheese, fava beans, pea tendrils, lemon, and mint. Don’t even try to create this mix of crunch, smoothness, and spices on your own!

The entrees wee Paellas.

Seafood with calamari, mussels, clams, rockfish, shrimp, sofrito, and saffron bamba rice.

Valencian with rabbit confit, smoked sausage, wild rice, Brussels sprouts, artichokes, mustard crema, and saffron.

Vegetarian filled with lentils, veggies, and good enough to please any carnivore.

Dessert was birthday cake—and the rugelach served here. It is not the usual but a chocolate delight!

Sangria was the drink of choice—it being very special with frozen fresh fruit in the mix.

El Five does it all—no need to worry about your party—and you, and all your guests, will be so thrilled with the final product. NOW WHEN CAN I GO BACK!

Not in a popular neighborhood location for dining, Pizzeria Lui proves that if you are good enough, the crowds will come. And come they do to this small one room freestanding spot. Big windows, a walk-up counter for ordering, and community seating for the lucky ones who nab a seat. Otherwise wait a bit for your turn-and everyone does, as it is so worth the short time it takes for that seat. Owner Zach and one other do it all. There is a 900-degree wood burning oven that is the focal point, and the menu is short and sweet. The Caesar salad is excellent but when ordered is served from the refrigerator in a plastic box complete with cheese, dressing, and crispy croutons. “Cheesesticks” is an oval pie with mozzarella, smoked mozz, cheesy herb mix, and a side of sauce. Gooey with cheese melting all over, it’s a real treat. The pies are one size ,14inches, and served slightly charred. The crust is thin but not soggy with the bubbly higher sides perfect to encase the fillings. Choose red pizzas that start with homemade red sauce and range from margherita, pepperoni, veggie, and shrrom to eggplant parm and the sopressata that arrives with the spicy salami, red onion, Kalamata olive, Mozz, arugula, and garlic combining for a zesty treat. Add spicy honey for more fun. White pizzas are a favorite and selections are great. Go for the “lawn boy” where the crust is layered first with pesto, then artichoke, heirloom cherry tomato, fresh mozz, garlic, and arugula. Again, the dough is the perfect vessel to hold the goodness of the cheese and veggies. There are classic pizzas as well. A short wine and beer list complement the food. Paper plates, plastic silver, paper towel napkins, and hot sauces are at the table. They deliver your pie when ready, and then it’s time to indulge in the best pizza in town. Pizzeria Lui is so worth the drive for a bit of heaven. One visit and you are hooked.

Birthday dinner 2 at Tables. 5 different entrees and all were wonderful.

We had the cod, the trout, the pork, the duck, and the gnocchi-everyone was thrilled!!!!!

Great service with Emily too-what a treat.
